Vision
Empowering people to turn imagination into reality through augmented reality, from dream homes to professional designs.
OVERVIEW
WHERE IT ALL STARTED
I created Vision as a final project for a Human Factor's class at Arizona State University. Inspired by our class readings, 'Don't Make Me Think' by Steve Krug and 'Hooked' by Nir Eyal, I decided to use techniques and design principles from these books to create a home design AR mobile app. This idea stemmed from how each year in college, as I moved from dorms to apartments, I strived to create a space that was both productive and a haven for relaxation. However, all that redecorating effort often ended up with me just going for a simple setup. I always wished it could feel more like a cozy home away from home.
I wished for a tool to easily envision room designs, saving time and money, so I could focus on the important aspects of college life instead of constantly redoing my space.
CREATE YOUR VISION
The goal of this project is to offer a space where users can unleash their inner interior designer. It's also a supportive tool for interior designers and architects battling creative blocks. During my college days, I envisioned an interior design platform for sharing designs and drawing inspiration from fellow creators, all within a community-focused environment, distinct from typical social media platforms.
BRING YOUR VISION TO LIFE
The goal of this project was to offer users a platform where they can create and reference their projects, simplifying the process of translating their creative ideas into reality.

RESEARCH AND APPLICATION
TRIGGER
Triggers are cues that prompt users to take action. There are two types of triggers:
EXTERNAL TRIGGERS
These come from the environment and can be advertising, notifications, or other prompts that remind users to use a product.
INTERNAL TRIGGERS
These are generated internally, often due to emotions, thoughts, or routines. Users might turn to a product in response to a feeling or need.
ACTION
To promise a reward to consumers. This is the behavior that the user takes in response to the trigger.
INVESTMENT
Users need to have a personal contribution. Its been shown that we value our own work more than its actually worth. This means a consumer’s investment in a product increases its value disproportionately. This is called the IKEA effect
VARIABLE REWARDS
After taking the action, the user gains something useful. Rewards need to be a variable in order to hook a consumer into a cycle and form a habit. Otherwise the consumer starts anticipating the reward and will start to lose interest and wont come back to the product.
THE INCENTIVES
Camera Function with Room Dimensions
The app's camera feature is designed for precision. It captures room dimensions with accuracy, allowing for the exact placement of furniture and decor in the virtual space. This functionality ensures that the virtual design elements are in perfect harmony with the room's actual physical dimensions.
Private User Profiles
In Vision, user profiles are like personal, private sanctuaries, visible only to the account holder. Although not like your typical social media platform, Vision does offer a little window to the world of creativity, where users can peek at designs by others. It's a great way to spark some inspiration for their own wonderful projects.
Your Designs
This repository is the cozy corner where all user designs are collected, neatly stored, and thoughtfully organized. This space is to help users maintain a consistent aesthetic and design throughout their homes, making it a haven of their personal style.
Color Coordinator
Users can create their own folders to play with different color schemes for each room. It's a fun way to experiment with colors, ensuring that every room has its own perfect blend of coordination and contrast. It's like having a personal color palette for every corner of your home!
Share & Get Inspired
Our features are all about bringing designers together in a community. Users can proudly showcase their creative designs and peek at what others are crafting. It's a wonderful way to get inspired and spark new ideas. Think of it as a friendly gathering of creative minds, all within our app, where everyone's design is a source of inspiration.

FINAL MOCKUP
I crafted a high-fidelity prototype that really demonstrated the incentived from each category of the Hooked Cycle. It was a great way to help my peers clearly see the heart and soul of Vision, especially how the camera cleverly detects room dimensions. It wasn't just about showing off the app's features – it was about sharing the Vision experience in a way that was easy to grasp and fun to explore.
TAKEAWAYS
🔑
When I shared Vision with my classmates, their feedback really highlighted its potential. They loved the idea of a friendly, handy app like Vision for sparking ideas for their own spaces. One suggestion that stood out was the cool idea of taking a picture of a piece of furniture and then finding similar but more affordable or differently colored options. It was great to see how Vision could become even more user-friendly and helpful. So, here are some key insights from the feedback I received:
- Add a feature where users can take photos of their furniture sighting and explore similar options within the app.
- Link furnitures to store website where individuals can purchase their furniture in real time.
- When I chatted with designers about Vision, it hit me that not everyone begins their interior design adventure with a blank canvas. That's why I'd like to add a feaure that lets you pull colors from your existing room setup. With this tool, you can enhance the current decor using the color coordinator. By using the camera to capture the room's aesthetic, user's will be able to find furniture and decor that match those colors.
